Construction work being carried out on the old Imperial Hotel on Victoria Street West caused the structure to become unstable and as a result, Auckland City Council demolished the building.
The repairs to this neighbouring building at 71 Victoria Street West were necessary as a result of damage to the building during demolition of the hotel.
During the demolition process, the building was damaged by masonry falling on to the roof/parapet and machinery hitting upstairs deck area and associated handrail.
Structural modifications and repairs were carried out under the guidance of both Auckland City Council and Chester Consultants Ltd.
The building was repaired in keeping with it’s original architecture, so the original plaster work and damaged corbels were replaced to match.
Structural strengthening of the supporting steel framing was completed and integrated into the original brick structure.
